Startup Melaka Digest 2019 #1

Sneak Peak (Feb-May 2019):

  • iRadar sharing session @ MMU
  • 1st Cradle Open Day in Melaka
  • DeliverySquad sharing - supported by DreamBase coworking space
  • Malaccans @ Alibaba Netpreneur programme & blog to follow
  • 1st Panel Session (Ecommerce) - Happening in May!
  • Community Group & what's next.

FEB: we kick-started our very first sharing session with iRadar CEO, Prof Koo, at Multimedia University. We also learned that MMU is prepping a new course to cultivate more digital talents.

MAR: We had the very first Cradle Open Day in Melaka, featuring #CradleRocks Team and our local startup heroes like Wahdah, Softinn and GameHouz. We share the same ambition to make Melaka more startup-friendly, and hopefully we can see community in Melaka getting more strong support from promising agency like Cradle Fund.

The event is supported by our venue partner Utopia Workspace.

To learn more about funding opportunities from Cradle Fund, please visit: www.cradle.com.my/products/ or watch the video below.

APR: We have a sharing + makan session with DeliverySquad founder Vincent Ng. We learned about how online food delivery service works and how a small startup taking on giants like GrabFood and FoodPanda. It was indeed a very engaging session between speaker and audience.

🎉 It is also our very first event at the town area, thanks to coworking space partner DreamBase.

Community Highlights:

According to Jason Low (our past speaker, mentor and judge at Startup Melaka events), there is a few Melaka companies attending Alibaba Netpreneur programme at the Alibaba headquarter in Hangzhou, China; namely Happy2u, Jelitasara, and Trapo.

If you wish to learn what they learned from Alibaba, you must follow Jason's blog at: www.jasonlow.my and he's still updating the content regularly.

Also, not to forget, Happy2U founder Madelyn Chin will also be sharing her Alibaba Netpreneur experience at our upcoming e-commerce panel sharing session event. Other panel speakers include Michelle (CMO, Wako) and ErHern (CEO, GameHouz). You wouldn't want to miss this!

What's next:

We're seeing more members joining the Startup Melaka FB group. We're taking a stricter stance in approving the membership request and group post.

No one likes a spammy community group, period.

One of the common responses we received from new group members:

"I am a [technical/managerial role] at [Infineon or big company] for years, wanted to startup..."

If you're one of them, or have any other question, feel free to post them or seek potential collaborations in the group.

"Melaka is very small, I don't want my company know about my plan to startup." - okay, please fill in this form here, and see how we can assist.

After working on several initiatives for the past few years, we're now trying to reinvent our approach to serve the community better. For example, matching university talents with startups & organizations to help growing the digital economy in Melaka.
